Benefits in Place service

Citizens Advice West Oxfordshire are working with other local CA offices, including Citizens Advice North Oxon and South Northants to deliver the Benefits in Place service.  This is a “digital front door” for the Oxfordshire Citizens Advice project “Benefits in Place”.

Benefits in Place is a new way of working in a changing world. Its aim is to reduce Health Inequalities by providing referrals from partner organisations such as GP Surgeries, PCN Link Workers or food banks, or self-referrals, with fast and seamless referral to specialist support.

Role description

We are looking for volunteers to support this service.  You will be part of a team of volunteers who respond to client calls (voicemails), call the client back to obtain information and move the client forwards as appropriate. This could be for Advice or signposting for additional support as required. This role involves a lot of client contact. At present this is all digital (phone/email) but will also be offered in the West Oxfordshire community when it is safe to do so.

What you need to have

You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you’ll need to:

  • be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
  • have good ICT, listening and written communication skills
  • Have a good telephone manner
  • be able to exercise good independent judgment
  • be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
  • be willing to undertake training in your role

How much time do you need to give?

You’ll be in charge of your own time and volunteering shifts, but we suggest one half day per week, for a minimum of three months.

Valuing inclusion

Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, people with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary people, and people from Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
